You see the spirit of Marcus Garvey pouring out into him and everything described after that opening line is like an outer body experience. It didn’t matter what was said before as only Nas could have painted such vivid pictures, transporting you to a destination in your mind within the first line. Joey Bada$$ comes in so smooth that you are left to wonder how Nas can possibly come in after that monster verse and spit anything close to comparable but in true Nas fashion, he comes in oh so calm and blows your mind in ways you never thought was possible! It’s just the kind of talent that Nasir Jones is when he says “possessed by Marcus Garvey, the body, the vessel”. There is literally nothing one can find wrong with the track. If you are familiar with Statik you know he’s unapologetically a pure hip hip fan, one that appreciates the hard work and journey to the top and this song shows just how proud of his craft he is.
